The trustees of the Milton Keynes City Football Club charity are posting this information to notify you of a change to our charity status. This is not something that requires approval from the members but we felt that we wanted to give our volunteers the opportunity to read and this ahead of its submission to the charity commission.
The charity is changing from an unincorporated charity to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This is a process that the BYC have recently gone through and is good practice for charities. The CIO legal structure has been available for charities since 2013 so it is a well-established process. The existing charity will be closed and a new charity will be set up with a new charity number. All existing records for the current charity will remain online at the Charity Commission website – https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/charity-commission
As part of this change the name of the charity will change to Milton Keynes City Sports and Community Trust. This will NOT change the name of the football club which will remain Milton Keynes City Football Club. The name of the football club is a legal trademark which we own and will retain ownership of.
The aims of the new charity are
- The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities for and opportunities to participate in sport and other physical activities for the benefit of the inhabitants of Milton Keynes.
- To advance the education of the public in sport, physical activity and wellness.

The new charity will be established once we submit the papers to the Charity Commission and they complete their processes. The first AGM of the new charity will be in the summer of 2024.
